Sweet Nicky On The Boards

Lucky Londoners will soon get a chance to see lovely Nicholas Hoult in his West End debut. He's starring in New Boy, a gay-themed boarding school drama (is there any other kind?) based on the novel of the same name by William Sutcliffe. Buy your tickets now; the play has a limited run and the venue is small.

Nicholas, who turns 19 on December 7, is also filming A Single Man, the directing debut of fashion designer Tom Ford. Nicholas plays a "sexually ambiguous" student who is, um, interested in his gay professor (Colin Firth). I'd say that hilarity ensues, but since A Single Man is based on a novel by Christopher Isherwood I'm guessing that the hilarity is kept to a minimum.

"Jesus, this guy's like Tickle Me Elmo for English majors."
As expected, Twilight opened big. Bigger than expected, although not as big as originally reported. (This is because it made $35 million on Friday, but considerably less than that on Saturday and even less on Sunday.) Today the cover of the new issue of Life & Style declares that Robert Pattinson is "The Sexiest Man In The World!" and I just shake my head in wonderment. My personal taste for chicken not withstanding, I just don't get it, and now it has become a kind of compulsion with me. I even did a little unscientific survey at work today. "Sexiest man in the world? Yes or no?" Most common answer: "No." Second most common answer: "Um... no." Of course, everyone I asked was above the age of twenty.

But, hey, if you think he's hot, good for you. I'm sure you that we'll be seeing a lot of him for the next couple of years. I guess I'd better get used to it.

Styles That Might Not Catch On: Special Victims Unit

What is it about London-based model Daniel T that makes stylists go a little bit insane? His long hair, skinny frame and early seventies rock star vibe seems to inspire some of the worst couture imaginable. Is it any wonder that the poor kid always looks completely miserable? My favorite is the fuzzy-wuzzy harlequin outfit with giant furry epaulettes. Who could think up such a thing? Lacroix, darling.

Guess What? I'm A Chick!

Matt at Boy Culture tried it and so did David Dust, so I thought I would try it too. "It" is Genderanalyzer, and what it does is analyzes blogs and tells you the gender of the person who wrote the blog. Sounds fun, huh? Well, it is, but mostly because it is seldom correct. I tried it and here's what it told me: "We have strong indicators that is written by a woman (99%)."

They are 99% sure that I am a woman and I haven't even shaved today!

Micky Skeel Hansen Is Not A Pop Star...

...but he plays one on TV. Well, in a movie, actually. Remix is a film that was released in Denmark in January of this year. Micky Skeel Hansen plays Ruben, a 16-year-old who becomes a pop star while his life becomes a living Hell. It's all very familiar in a "be careful what you wish for" kind of way. The horrible songs he sings in the movie (we are told time and time again how good these songs are and how brilliant Ruben is, but we are not stupid) are available as free downloads at this fake site for the film's fictional record label Major Records. (Major Records. Get it?) The songs are awesomely bad, so therefore worth the listen for connoisseurs of the rotten. The movie's not much, and you've seen it all before, but the boy is awfully cute, and not a bad actor, although the real acting honors go to Camilla Bendix as the A&R woman who sells her soul (and his) to make him a star. So see it, don't see it, whatever. It hasn't been released in the USA so don't go out of your way.

Frankly, I just needed an excuse to post this picture.

Future Ex-Husbands: Hayato Ichihara

I know I've featured Hayato Ichihara before, but he's so lovely I couldn't resist. Riri Shushu no subete (aka All About Lily Chou-Chou) is a must see.

Model of the Moment

I recently encountered Mark Shuff in a series of photos by Kai Z Feng. Mark is an 18-year-old model from England who, it has been reported, was discovered while attending a music festival.  His stock in trade seems to be the sad puppy-dog look.
